This picture is a tribute to the Norvegian gothic-metal band "Theatre of Tragedy" which is not among my favourites, but their amazing song "Velvet Darkness They Fear" brpught me a lot of contemplations and inspiration once upon a time. Well, why should we fear velvet darkness, or the creatures that dwell in it? They can become our friends!
The words in the picture are quptations from the song (performed like a dialog with high female clear vocal and "velvet" man's growiling):
"Misery thee?! Rather misery me!
For in Time's durance am I naught but wee."
"And to me should'st thou be the humblemost knave,
Lest fear! spit I on thy cist and grave!
Lest leer I at thee and do bewitch,
And the tharms fluttering claw'd and eldritch."
Grandious work !
I've also listened to Theatre Of Tragedy back in the nineties (even seen them live on a festival in 1996) ...
haven't listened to their stuff for ages though ...
Still, the picture is very beautiful !

". . . and even triumph is bitter when only the battle is counted" - Samael ("Rebellion")
Danke schon.
Sincerely, the work is not the best one. And please, people, don't think that I'm a ToT fan! They are descent band, but I prefer heavier stuff. And usually despice female vocal (if it's not growling or screaming).
I'll gladly draw illustations to the music of Samael, Therion, Tiamat, My Dying Bride, Gods Tower, Behemoth, Summoning, Burzum...and also heavy metal stuff. I don't like gothic metal genre as such. But never say never! Now I just don't have time for fancy drawing. I must also finish my CoF tribute - this is a big A1 picture. But I'll continue drawing in this field, I promise. Brothers and sisters of metal, let's come together!
Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
